Jezero Gâlcescu: Ledová krása v pohoří Parâng v Rumunsku
Nestled in the heart of the Parâng Mountains, Lake Gâlcescu is a true gem. This stunning glacial cirque boasts an area of 31,260 square meters and sits at an altitude of 1925 meters, with a maximum depth of 9.3 meters.
Located right on the edge of the most popular tourist trail that traverses the mountain, Lake Gâlcescu is designated as a natural monument, and the surrounding area is a protected natural reserve, encompassing geological, floristic, and landscape wonders. After a challenging six-hour hike through the steep slopes of Parâng, starting from Rânca Resort, you’ll be rewarded with the breathtaking beauty of Lake Gâlcescu, along with nearly ten smaller lakes that dot the vast valley.
Reaching Lake Gâlcescu requires passing by Mount Păpuşa on Transalpina, and the road will only be left behind when you catch sight of two peaks ahead – Cărbunele and Mohorul.
The adventure continues as you embark on the marked tourist trail with a red stripe. To the right, you’ll encounter Cărbunele, with a climbing path and a cross adorning its summit, while to the left stands the majestic Mohorul.
Ascending Cărbunele, you’ll cross a long saddle that leads to the majestic Mohorul, and from there, you’ll need to press on. After conquering the last peak, you’ll be greeted by a gentler ridge, providing a well-deserved respite.
From the ridge, you’ll have a perfect view of the glacial complex, including a smaller lake that flows into the larger Gâlcescu through a meandering stream. Other smaller lakes dot the area, with hardy shrubs like low junipers and dwarf pines adapted to the harsh winds of this pristine wilderness. Immerse yourself in the untouched beauty of Lake Gâlcescu and its surroundings, and experience an unforgettable adventure in the Parâng Mountains of Romania.
